Shaun’s Quadrant—November 2005
Retrospective and Things to Come

Shaun Farrell, author, actor, critic - click to reach his websiteDear Readers,

As some of you know, I spent the last two months acting in a production of The Foreigner. The play was a success, and I thank all of you who showed your support. With the play over, I am rededicating myself to various writing projects, and I thought it was a good time to look at where SQ has been and where it is going.

The first six months of SQ were highly successful. The column featured interviews with Ray Bradbury, Michael A. Stackpole, John Varley, Kim Harrison, Dennis McKiernan, Chitra Divakaruni, Harry Turtledove, and Jeff Mariotte, most of who have landed on the various bestseller lists throughout their prolific careers. I can’t thank these writers enough for their time and energy, especially when they knew I’m a young writer still trying to make my way. If you missed one of these interviews, you can access them under the SQ archive.

Last month also featured my first Classic Review (Metropolis), a column I am very excited about and wish I could dedicate more time to. I have two CR projects in the works, but both require time and research. I hope the wait will be worth it!

So, what’s in the future for SQ? It’s hard to say, but I have great hopes to reach for more—and I plan to bring you exciting and thoughtful interviews with your favorite writers. I can give you one sneak peak, I suppose. In the coming months, SQ will feature an interview with the prolific and dynamic R.A. Salvatore! He has made Forgotten Realms arguably the most popular of all RPG novels, and he’s written many of his own original novels. Also, look for an interview with Paula Woods, a bestselling mystery writer. I have several other interviews in the works that I am excited about, but none of them are yet confirmed.

Finally, thanks to all the readers out there who give SQ and Far Sector SFFH their time and attention. I hope you continue to enjoy the ride!
